After being part of West Midlands Railway’s Adoptee Programme since Summer 2020, we regret to announce that our collaboration has now sadly come to an end.
West Midlands Railway has recently expressed a preference for uniformity in thought, opinion, and communication across its partnerships. While we respect their approach, we believe strongly in the importance of open dialogue, individual expression, and constructive criticism—values we consider essential for a thriving, diverse volunteer community and healthy personal growth.
It appears that West Midlands Railway has chosen to focus on a narrower interpretation of diversity, one that aligns with their specific narrative, rather than embracing the full spectrum of diversity, which includes diversity of thought and opinion. We believe that true diversity welcomes differing perspectives, not just those that fit a pre-defined framework.
At Friends of Redditch Railway, we encourage our volunteers to think independently, express themselves freely, and share their ideas. We are committed to fostering an environment where freedom of thought and expression are respected, as we believe that differing viewpoints enhance both our work and our lives. We do not support the practice of shutting down opinions simply because they may be uncomfortable.
Despite the end of this collaboration, we remain focused on our mission: promoting sustainable public transport, engaging with our local community, and continuing our work with local authorities on the development of the new Redditch railway station—without the need for themed days or symbols that detract from our core goals.
